Man: Hey. Would you look at that? What is that up in the sky?
Young Boy: Aughhhh! Wh-what is that thing!? I've never seen a monster like that!
(A man hurries up to the crowd.)
Gentleman: Run! Everyone, hurry and run away!
(Some of the crowd disperses, but the first man who spoke turns to his partner.)
Man: Run away? H-how are we supposed to get away from something that big?
(The people leave in different directions, but a young boy enters the scene.)
Boy: Waaaaah! Mo-o-ommy!
(Ayaka approaches the boy.)
Ayaka: Here you go! One sweet candy for you!
Boy: Wha...
Ayaka: You don't need to be afraid. Somewhere out there are people who can beat any kind of monster. They'll keep us safe.
(She turns from the boy.)
Ayaka: Mistress Sakura... We can count on you, right?
(The scene shifts to the party and Sol at the top of the crystal tower. A shock wave emanates from Chaotic Darkness.)
Sakura: I never dreamed this could come to pass... That the ill-will of humanity could be used to create a vision...
Jake: It is a foul-looking beast. And that's what lives in the hearts of men?
Lid: No way... I don't believe it. I don't want to believe something like that...
Nichol: Chaotic Darkness... How can we defeat something like that....
(The camera pans up to Chaotic Darkness, which moves northwest off screen. The party all react with ! over their heads.)
Lasswell: Wh-what now!?
(The party runs off in the direction Chaotic Darkness went. There is a series of scenes: Chaotic Darkness emerges from its shadow and appears as a humongous white skeleton. It casts a spell, and a large impact occurs. The scene then returns to our party. They are standing looking out into space as large rocks float up from below.)
Rain: Th-this is awful...
Lid: The land has been blown to pieces...
(The camera pans right, and Sol enters.)
Sol: Chaotic Darkness is made of nothing but ill-will. There is probably nothing more beautiful in existence. This world will soon be destroyed by the gate. I think I will then make for Paladia next. Along with Chaotic Darkness... I will bestow beautiful and equal destruction upon both Aldore and Hess.
(There is a white light surrounding Sol, and he disappears.)
Jake: Well, shoot. Looks like we've come to the end. We're way too late now to worry about things like closing that gate. I don't really feel like trying to beat that kind of beastly opponent. I guess I owe Shera an apology... What a useless big brother I turned out to be...
(Lid collapses on her knees.)
Lid: *sniffle* Evan... I really hate this...
Fina(...): Rain... Is it really over for us?
Rain(...): Yeah. It's over.
Fina: What?
Rain: If we give up, that is. Right, Lasswell?
Lasswell: Y-yes. That's true enough...
Rain: Oh, come on, Lasswell. Even you're looking all gloomy!
(Lid stands.)
Lid: Rain... I know you're not good at giving up on things, but... We're talking about facing the evils of all mankind. How do you plan on beating something like that?
Rain: I know. It's horrifying, isn't it? The evils humans are capable of.
(Rain looks around at the party.)
Rain: But... it's not like humans are filled with nothing but evil.
Fina(...): Yes. I think that's true. Compassion, kindness, mercy... That's what I learned from all of you.
(Fina nods.)
Fina: It's given me strength. A warm and sturdy strength.
Rain: Yeah. That's right. If the Chaotic Darkness was born of humanity, then humans should be able to beat it back. If we give up, we're finished. But we have the power to blast away this darkness.
Lid(...): You know, it's funny.... But when Rain says it, I really feel like it might be true.
Nichol: It has been like that for the entirety of our journey together. Rain's words have the pwoer to move people.
(Lasswell nods.)
Lasswell: Let's go, Rain. I'll be at your side till the end anyway, no matter what should happen.
Fina: And so will I!
Lid: I'll fight, too! And so will Jake! Right, Jake!?
Jake: When my lovely Lid demands it, how can I refuse? So, Nichol. What are you going to do?
Lid: Why are you asking Nichol...
Nichol: Of course.... I will accompany you all. Our foe is an overwhelming one, but if it is truly a vision summoned from a crystal, then if we defeat Sol, who summoned it...
Jake: Then that Chaotic Darkness might disappear, too, huh? Ha! Suddenly I'm feeling a bit fired up!
(Rain nods, and the six move off, leaving Sakura and Raegen behind.)
Sakura: How does it feel? Seeing how your son has grown.
(Raegen moves a few steps in the direction the party went.)
Raegen: He's something. He really is. So, Sakura.... Now it's up to us.
Sakura: I know. Heh heh. I'm glad I've finally found it. The reason I'm still alive after all this time.
(Rain re-enters the scene.)
Rain: Dad. Sakura. Come on already, We're gonna leave you behind if you're so slow, old folks!
Raegen: Yeah. We're coming now.
(The party is walking in a sandy landscape. As they walk, Raegen speaks.)
Raegen: So we have to cross this Floating Continent to reach the Chaotic Darkness. That's some idea.
(The rest of the party has moved on, leaving only Lasswell and Raegen on screen.)
Lasswell: It's Rain who thought of it. He's really been outdoing himself here. Just as the son of the great Sir Raegen should.
Raegen: No. I know the truth.
(Lasswell has had his back to Raegen, but now turns to look at him.)
Raegen: The reason that Rain can overcome anything is because he has you supporting him.
Lasswell: Y-you think so?
Raegen: Lasswell. I'm really glad. Glad that you're the man who inherited my Purple Lightning. I'm sure your parents would be proud as well.
Lasswell: My parents...
(Raegen turns and walks a few paces south.)
Raegen: You know, your father and I were brothers in arms. We fought together on countless battlefields.
Lasswell: Sir Raegen. You've never...
Raegen(...): You were always so stubborn and set in your ways, not wanting to hear a word about your parents.
Lasswell: That was.... because... They had been gone as long as I could remember. My mother and father... You and Miss Sophia were the only parents I ever knew, Sir Raegen.
Raegen: Is that right?
(Raegen moves so he can look directly at Lasswell.)
Raegen: I'm honored that you thought so, but.... you should know your own parents as well. By the time this battle ends, you will have to learn about them, whether you like it or not.
Lasswell: By the time this battle ends? I'm not sure I understand, sir. But I would be glad to hear anything you might have to tell me.
Raegen: Good. So don't you dare die.
Lasswell: Of... Of course, sir.
(Lasswell turns and walks on, but stops at the edge of the screen and turns back to Raegen, who hasn't moved.)
Lasswell: Sir Raegen? What is it?
Raegen: You know, Lasswell...
(Raegen moves again so he's directly facing Lasswell.)
Raegen: I know how much you've thought of me as a real father... That's why I...
(Raegen turns his back on Lasswell now.)
Raegen: No.... Now's not the time for such talk.
Lasswell: What talk, Sir Raegen?
(Raegen turns again to face Lasswell.)
Raegen: Nothing. It's nothing at all. Just forget I said anything.
Lasswell: R-right... As you say, sir.
(Lasswell leaves.)
Raegen: Lasswell. Don't worry. I understand how you feel. So.... why not try it? Even just one time? Calling me "dad."
(Rain walks up.)
Rain: Dad.
(Raegen reacts with a ! and steps back, surprised.)
Raegen: Gah!
Rain: What are you acting so flustered about, Dad?
Raegen: ...Well, at least I get it from you.
Rain: Huh?
(Raegen walks on, and Rain turns to watch him leave, then grumbles.)
Rain: What're you talking about, old man? I swear...
(The scene opens on battle against fodder.)
Rain: Lasswell, enemies incoming! Are you ready!?
Lasswell: Yes! I am always ready!
Raegen: (Rain.... Lasswell....) (Seeing those two reminds me of the past...) (The days I spent fighting alongside Lasswell's father...)
(Wave 1 of battle commences, and leads to wave 2.)
Raegen: Lasswell! You are my son!
Lasswell: Yes, Sir Raegen. I feel that way as well.
Raegen: So keep nothing from me! Come at me with everything you've got! Because I am your father! We are father and son!
Lasswell: Understood, Sir Raegen.
Raegen: It really is Sir Raegen....
(Wave 2 of battle commences. There is no further dialogue afterwards.)
(Nichol, Jake, and Lid are walking along. They come to a stop, and Jake turns to Nichol.)
Jake: What's wrong, Nichol? You're looking pretty gloomy.
(Nichol turns to look at Jake as Jake speaks further.)
Jake: Are you worried about Lightlord and Waterlord?
Nichol: ...Yes.
(Jake takes a step closer to Nichol.)
Jake: It's true that Behemoth seemed like one tough nut to crack. But you know what? People always fight harder when they know they're fighting for someone else. And those crazy strong ladies are fighting for our sake. They're not gonna let themselves be done in that easy.
Nichol: You're surely right.
Lid: Yup! Let's do it! I feel all powered up, too, knowing that I'm fighting for the one I love most!
Jake: Oh? I'm glad to hear it.
Lid(irritated): What? Isn't this when you would normally demand to know who I'm talking about?
Jake: What!? Oh... Y-yeah, I guess so. Right. I mean, you're obviously talking about me. Right?
Lid: It's not funny if you take that long, dumb-dumb!
(She wallops him with her hammer.)
Jake: Gyah! Why!?
(The camera pans left to show Rain looking on.)
Rain(...): Fighting... for someone... huh?
(Rain bows his head, and a flashback occurs. Child Lasswell and child Rain stand with Sophia in Grandshelt. Raegen enters slowly.)
Rain: Oh! Dad's back!
(Lasswell and Rain run to either side of Raegen, but Raegen seems focused on Sophia.)
Raegen: I took care of some of the monsters nearby. Things should be safe for a little while now.
Sophia: I imagine so. Good work, darling.
Raegen: I should go report to the king, though. You all wait at home.
(Sophia moves to let him pass, and Raegen walks slowly on. Rain speaks once Raegen is off screen.)
Rain: Dad... He was covered in wounds....
Lasswell: Was he really okay? There was a lot of blood...
Rain: Hey, Mom. Why does Dad have to fight like that?
Sophia: He fights to keep the people of this land safe.
Rain: But I don't want Dad to die just to keep everybody else safe either.
Sophia: Don't you worry. Your dad won't die. When I say your dad is keeping everyone safe, that includes himself, too. He's one of the people of this land now, too.
Rain: What?
Sophia: Our family is part of this country. Keeping himself safe is also part of the way your dad keeps everyone safe. If he didn't, there would be many people who would be sad.
Lasswell: Yeah. You're right. I think so, too.
Rain: Dad's.... pretty amazing, huh?
Sophia: Yes. Your dad fights to keep others from feeling sorrow. As a knight of Grandshelt.
Rain: As a knight of Grandshelt... I want to be like that. I want to become a knight of Grandshelt just like that.
(The flashback ends and returns to Rain in present day.)
Rain: (To protect others from sorrow... That is what it means to protect...) (Can I really do it? Can I take on the Chaotic Darkness?)
(He's had his head bowed, but now lifts it.)
Rain: (No. I have to. I have to do it.) (As a knight of Grandshelt. Just like my father...)
(The camera pans left to include Raegen in the frame, then the scene fades out.)
(Lightlord & Waterlord fight Behemoth. Lightlord circles him, firing her gun. There is a cast of a spell, perhaps Ultima. It obliterates the scene, but when the scene reappears all three still stand.)
Veritas of the Light: Ha... ha... What a monster...
Veritas of the Waters: All our attacks haven't even slowed him down.
(Behemoth strikes the two Veritas, knocking them back and their helmets off.)
Veritas of the Waters: Ugh...
(Behemoth strikes at Waterlord again.)
Veritas of the Waters: Ah....
(Waterlord falls.)
Veritas of the Light: Waterlord!
Veritas of the Waters: Nichol... I'm sorry... My penitence... ends here...
Veritas of the Light: Damnit... Is this really the end...?
(Behemoth slowly moves to Lightlord.)
Veritas of the Light: Darklord. I'm coming to where you are now... We can make that promise come true in the next world... We'll finally get our journey together...
(Behemoth strikes her, and she falls.)
(Behemoth roars, and the scene returns to the party. Raegen and Lasswell pass by, then Sakura and Rain enter. Sakura comes to a stop with a ! over her head, and Rain turns to her.)
Sakura: Sister...
Rain: Sakura? What's wrong?
Sakura: Nothing... It's nothing at all. Don't worry about me. We should keep moving...
(They walk on.)
Sakura: (The fact that I can't feel her anymore doesn't have to mean she is dead.) (Not my sister. She's too strong to be finished that easily...)
(The scene opens on a lava field, in a fight against fodder.)
Nichol: Must be my imagination. I swear I just heard the Waterlord.
Sakura: What's that?
Nichol: It was a painful voice. It'd be better if there was nothing in her at all.
Sakura: ...You got that right.
(Wave 1 of battle commences. There is no further dialogue.)
(The party is still walking in the lava field. They come to a stop as Rain gets a ! over his head.)
Rain: That's--!
(The camera pans up to show a teleportation effect occurring.)
Raegen: Teleportation magic! Be on alert! Something is coming!
(Behemoth emerges from the portal!)
Rain: Behemoth!? He can use that kind of magic, too!?
Raegen: Yeah. He is still one of Hess's Eight Sages, after all.
(Behemoth tosses the two Veritas' healms down in front of the party. Sakura, Raegen, and Nichol all react with ! over their heads.)
Sakura: Wha...
(Sakura steps forward.)
Sakura: These are... their helms... Waterlord... and my sister's.... You... You killed her...?
Raegen: Lightlord....
(Nichol moves to Waterlord's helm and kneels next to it.)
Nichol: Waterlord... Thank you.. You fought till the very end for us, didn't you? I accept... your penitence.
(Nichol picks up Waterlord's helm.)
Rain: Nichol. Sakura. Look at Behemoth. He's looking pretty beat up.
(Editor's note: Behemoth appears gray now; I'm pretty sure he was brown before this.)
Rain: Lightlord and Waterlord did that for us. Behemoth is probably as weak as he'll ever get. Now is our chance to win.
(Rain draws his sword.)
Rain: No. Now is the time we've got to win!
Sakura: Yes. That's exactly right!
(Sakura readies her scythe.)
Nichol: Indeed!
(Nichol prepares for battle as well.)
(The rest of the party also prepares, and the scene drops into battle!)
Nichol: Waterlord... You were Elle's enemy. But still... I will fight for your sake now.
Sakura: Sister. We just couldn't see eye to eye, could we? Well, surely someday my life will run out, too. I will bring my hopes of making up with you with me into the afterlife.
(Battle begins in earnest now. You defeat Behemoth! There is no dialogue immediately afterwards.)
(The party still stands before Behemoth. Behemoth backs up a step.)
Rain: Hah.... hah.... Did we beat him?
Behemoth: Guh..... gaaaaaaaaauuuuuuuugh!
(A yellow light shines in front of Behemoth.)
Behemoth: You... you put a stop to my madness...
(Raegen reacts with a ! over his head.)
Raegen: Behemoth... Have you come back to your senses at last?
Behemoth: Yes...
(One by one, the party sheathe their weapons.)
Behemoth: It seems there is no way to escape the crystal's cursed bonds... but death...
Raegen: I see....
(Jake moves closer to Behemoth.)
Jake: Hey. You'd better be kidding me. You think that we're gonna forgive what you've done just because you're dying now?
Behemoth: I know that.... But.... it is also true... that there is no way left for me to atone now but through death.... If I might still make one wish.... If it were still possible... I hope you will also grant Sol the same chance.... to atone in death.
Jake: You bet we will. Whether he likes it or not.
Behemoth: ...I suppose you would not want to hear thanks from me... but... I am grateful... Thank you...
(Behemoth comes to a rest. Rain steps forward.)
Rain: Come on... we should go. We don't have any time to waste just standing around.
(The party leaves, all except Raegen who stops in front of Behemoth.)
Raegen(...): (Sol was once the kindest and most loving of all Hess's Sages.)(From what I heard, he studied the crystals and worked tirelessly night and day to try to find ways they could be used for the people.)(How ironic... That those very same crystals should have now turned the same man into a force of such utter destruction.)
(Raegen leaves, and the camera centers on Behemoth before the scene fades out.)
(The party is fighting fodder on a snowfield.)
Raegen: I can feel Sol's energy growing stronger.
Sakura: Under the influence of the confusing darkness, I would assume. Sol's power is overflowing.
Lid: Hey.... we can win this, right?
Jake: Worry not, little Lid. We have the goddess of victory on our side.
Lid: ....The goddess of victory, eh.
(Wave 1 of battle commences, and leads to wave 2.)
Jake: Lid, how could you be so sullen at a time like this?
Lid: The goddess of victory would be Fina, right?
Jake: What?
Lid: Or were you gonna say Nichol was the goddess of victory?
Jake: Wh-what!?
(Wave 2 commences, and leads to wave 3.)
Jake: U-umm, Lid.... The only goddess of victory to me is you, Lid.
Lid: Huh? No way...
Jake: I'm not lying. You've got the best smile of victory around, Lid.
Lid: I-I see... ....All right, then, I'll give this all I've got! Jake, don't stray off now!
Jake: Wh-what's this? What's happening here?
(Wave 3 commences. There is no further dialogue.)
(The party is walking in the snowfield, but comes to a stop with ! over their heads as whirlwinds surround them.)
Lasswell: What.... is this?
Raegen: Timespace has become distorted. Is this another effect of the Chaotic Darkness? Take care. If you are swallowed up by one of these distortions, there's no telling where you might end up.
(The distortions disappear as quickly as they came.)
Sakura: Well... It seems it has stabilized at last.
(Lid gets a ! over her head as she spots something.)
Lid: Hold on!
(Lid runs forward a few steps.)
Lid: Look! There! There's some kind of town! It wasn't there before, though!
Nichol: It doesn't seem to be a mirage, either.
Raegen: Perhaps it was blown here from some other world?
Rain: Well, lucky us then. These battles have been dragging on and we would use a bit of rest.
Lid: What!? We don't even know what that place is! And you want us to rest there!?
Rain: I don't think it's that unreasonable. You don't think we deserve a break?
Lid: That's not the issue here!
(Fina walks forward towards Lid.)
Fina: It's okay, Lid. I don't think that town poses us any danger.
Lid: R-really? I mean, if you say so, Fina, then I'll believe it.... but...
(Rain walks forward too.)
Rain: Either way, we won't know until we check it out!
(The party walks on, Lid last.)
(The camera pans over a snowy town filled with moogles. The party enters.)
Rain: Is this... a moogle town?
Lid: It is! It's not dangerous at all! Unless you mean dangerously adorable!
Fina: Yeah, I know! They really are so cute!
Sakura: So fluffy!
(The party turns to look at Sakura)
Raegen: S-Sakura...
Sakura: Wh-what are you looking at me like that for, hm? My appearance is that of a young girl. Shouldn't I act the part from time to time?
(The moogles haven't noticed the party up to now. One moogle appears from behind a building and turns towards the party. Upon spotting them, the moogle reacts with a ! over its head.)
Moogle: E-everybody! Watch out, kupo! Terrible monsters are attacking!
(The other moogles react with a ! as well and fly into a panic.)
Lid: Hey, wait! We're not monsters!
(Fina steps forward.)
Fina: We're not a threat to you. So, please.... do you think we could rest a while in your town?
Moogle: Truly? You're not here to hurt us, kupo?
Lid: Of course not!
Moogle: Well, looking at your closer.... I suppose you really aren't monsters, kupo. All right then, kupo! Feel free to rest in our town!
Fina: Thank you.
(The moogle gets a ? over its head.)
Moogle: It is still strange, though. We've never had monsters or humans infiltrate our town before, kupo.
(Rain steps forward.)
Rain: It seems that the dimensions are getting a bit, um, twisted right now.
Moogle: Twisted dimensions? That sounds pretty bad, kupo!
Rain: Well.... yeah, I suppose it is. But try not to worry too much. We're definitely going to find a way to fix things.
Fina: That's right. You can count on us.
Moogle: Hmm... I don't know what to make of this... But I guess we'll just have to trust you. Don't let us down, kupo!
(The moogle flies off, and the party watches it leave.)
Rain: Come on, guys. Let's get a bit of rest, then set out again. We've got to do our best for the moogles' sake, too!
(The party is fighting fodder in a darkened field.)
Rain: Doesn't the air here feel a lot heavier than it did before?
Nichol: Yeah. This is indeed strange.
Lasswell: There are also distortions in space. Let us proceed with care.
Rain: Yeah. That's right.
(Wave 1 of battle commences. There is no further dialogue.)
(The party is walking along but comes to a stop. Ahead of them is a curtain of darkness.)
Sakura: Th-this...
Raegen: I can't see anything up ahead. It's complete darkness.
Nichol: What should we do? There is no other way to reach the Chaotic Darkness....
Rain: We have no choice but to push onward. There is no road for us but the one which leads forward.
(The camera pans to focus on Lid, at the back of the party.)
Lid: W-we're going in here?
(Lid shuffles closer to Fina.)
Lid: Hey.... Fina.... Can I hold onto your hand? I'm not a big fan of the dark...
Fina: Sure, Lid. I'd feel better walking with you, too.
Jake: What's that, my lovely Lid? You need only have asked and I would have gladly walked hand-in-hand with you anywhere.
(Jake walks on off screen.)
Lid: What!? Hold on a minute! Fina, sorry! Just give me a second here!
Fina: S-sure.
(Lid runs after Jake, who's standing next to Nichol.)
Lid: What's with the kicked puppy act, huh, Jake? Even if I hold Fina's hand while I walk, I've still got another hand free, haven't I?
(Jake steps closer to Nichol.)
Jake: I guess I've got on one else to turn to. Nichol? Shall we clasp our hands in manly companionship?
Lid: What!? Seriously, what is going on!?
(Nichol sweats a single large drop.)
Nichol: J-Jake... I...I'm not sure how to respond to that...
Jake: Ha ha ha! You daft fool. Are you really that bothered? It's obviously a joke!
(Lid runs off screen.)
Lid: Stop with the stupid jokes, would you?
(Lid comes flying back on screen, pummeling Jake and sending him off screen into the darkness.)
Jake: Gah!
Nichol: Ah.... Jake...
Lid: All right. Enough of that! If that idiot can go in there all alone, then I don't think any of us will be able to take getting left behind!
Rain: R-right...
(The party follows after Jake.)
(The party is walking in darkness. Rain comes to a stop with a ! over his head and rushes north a bit.)
Rain: Everybody, look! Up there!
(The party all turns to look north. A giant skeleton sits high in the sky.)
Lasswell: Is the Chaotic Darkness... the one creating this dark space?
(A glowing light like a teleportation field, and Sol appears before them.)
Sol: That's right. The ill will of mankind is overflowing.
Rain: Sol!
Sol: Be quiet. If you listen closely... you should hear it, too. The anger. The hatred. The murderous intent. All the evil voices that whisper inside man, day in and day out...
(Lasswell collapses to his knees.)
Lasswell: Ugh!
(Lid is next to collapse.)
Lid: S-stop it! I don't... I don't want to hear anything like this!
(The rest of the party collapses as well.)
Sol: These are my most beautiful findings. You should accept them. This black distortion is the truth of what it means to be alive.
Rain: Who would accept something like that?
Sol: ...Why do you try so hard to deny the truth?
Rain: Behemoth said something to us. He wanted us to give you the chance to atone in death. He may not have been a good guy, but he was worried about you until the end.
Sol: And so?
Rain: We're the same, you know? We don't just fight for ourselves.
(Rain has stood back up by now. Nichol now stands as well.)
Nichol: We bear the wishes and hopes of so many others...
(Jake stands.)
Jake: We have people we want to protect...
(Lid stands.)
Lid: There's a future we want to grasp for ourselves...
(Lasswell stands.)
Lasswell: That is why we cannot simply give up.
(Fina stands.)
Fina: Yes. That's exactly right.
(Raegen and Sakura both stand.)
Fina: All of us... we love humanity. Life. This world. And if you think we'll let you destroy all of that, then you are undoubtedly wrong!
Sol: Love? Such words are not even worth listening to. For 700 years, I was sealed away in that crystal. This world, and everything that lives on it, is ugly. That is why I will destroy it. I will return everything to nothingness and release us all from this hell. That is my beautiful ideal. How would any of you ever understand? You have not lived in the crystal as I have.
(A glow, and Sol disappears. Rain turns to the party.)
Rain: Let's go. We've got to go after Sol. We've nearly reached the Chaotic Darkness.
Fina: Yeah...
(The party walks on.)
(The party is walking north in darkness. They come to a stop as Sol appears before them in a flash of light.)
Sol: What is it with you all? I don't understand it. Don't you realize that there is no hope left?
Rain: Sol. I'm sorry that you were trapped in that crystal for 700 years. I am. It's too long to expect anyone to be able to withstand. It's really not that surprising that you ended up hating all other life. But... We know better. We know there are people who were sealed away in crystal just as you were and whose hearts remain uncorrupted.
Fina: That's right.
(A flashback starts, showing the earth crystal.)
Fina: The other Fina.. She didn't give in to hatred. Do you know why that was? It was because she had someone she loved. Someone she kept always in her heart. She held onto the love that you mock and it saved her.
(The flashback ends.)
Fina: Sol. Do you understand? If you have something you truly cherish, then you can't lose it to hatred.
Sol: ...
Rain: Fina's right. Sol!
(Rain draws his sword.)
Rain: We can't lose to you! The other Fina counted on us to see this to the end!
(Sol begins to glow with power.)
Sol: Fine then. Prove it to me. Show me you can defeat me with your "love".
(Battle begins!)
Sol: Nothingness. All shall be returned to nothingness through death. Lapis, Paladia...
Raegen: You plan to destroy even our own hometown? The home we risked our lives to protect over 700 years ago!
Sol: I can always hear them. The far off voices of the Hess as they cry.... This whole 700 years... Not once did their cries cease. Only through death can the citizens of Hess be saved.
Raegen: You... What are you saying!
(Battle begins in earnest now. You defeat Sol! There is no dialogue immediately afterwards.)
(We open to a scene showing the party facing Sol. Rain still has his weapon drawn. Sol falls, and Rain sheathes his weapon.)
Rain: Sol... You've lost.
Sol: Heh heh heh...
Lasswell: What is so funny?
Sol: How can I not laugh? Perhaps you don't even realize it yourself. Do you know what kind of expression you all had as you battled against me? All your talk of love, but when you fought against me, your faces were all twisted with ugly hatred. You are just the same as I am. Just as filled with hate. I was not done in by love. I was defeated by hate.
Rain: ...
(Fina walks forward.)
Fina: You're wrong. Look close. Look at Rain's face. Rain doesn't hate you. That's not hate. It's regret.
Sol: Regret?
Rain: The Veritas were our enemies, but we came to understand one another by fighting each other. That's why... I thought maybe we could learn to understand you, too. Maybe it's too naive, but I was hoping that we might. But.... but... I guess sometimes there are people who you just won't ever convince. People you can't understand and who won't understand you. People you can't save... That... is what I hate. That's why I'm sad.
Sol: ...You... Your name is Rain, is that right?
Rain: ...Yeah.
Sol: Rain... Of all the kinds of humans I've ever met.... you're the most awful. It seems you should be the first thing that I get rid of when I return this world to nothing... It is as you said. We will not understand one another. Our destinies lie in conflict. So I promise you this... I will definitely destroy you.
(Sol has gotten up on his knees.)
Sol: Don't forget that... It is a promise.
Rain: ...
(Sol has disappeared. Raegen walks to Rain.)
Raegen: You did well, Rain.
Rain: Dad... I...
Raegen: You don't have to say anything. You did everything you could have.
(The camera was focused on Rain, Lasswell, Raegen and Fina. It now pans down to focus on Lid, Jake, Sakura and Nichol.)
Lid: Hey... Do you think the Chaotic Darkness will disappear now?
Nichol: No.... Even after defeating Sol, this darkness appears to only be growing.
Jake: Seriously? The Chaotic Darkness is just a vision, and it still won't go and disappear for us even after the person who summoned it is gone?
Sakura: We will not be able to defeat the Chaotic Darkness unless we fight it head on. That seems to be the way of it.
Nichol: Yes. Unfortunately, I would agree...
Lid: We've made it this far. I guess we might as well! If we do nothing, we're just gonna die anyway! Let's bash that thing into pieces!
(Lid pumps her fist in the air.)
Jake: That's the spirit, my lovely Lid. And don't worry. If we are to die, I will be beside you until the end.
(Lid drops her fist.)
Lid: ...Nope. Thanks but no thanks. I don't want to die beside you. I'd much rather live beside you.
Jake: What?
(Lid reacts with a ! over her head.)
Lid: What? What did I just say!? No! I didn't mean it like that! Just forget it! Forget it this instant!
(Lid bashes Jake with her hammer.)
Jake: Why!?
(The scene shifts back to Rain, standing with his back to the camera. Lasswell approaches him.)
Lasswell: Rain. Do not try to take too much of this onto yourself.
(Rain turns to him.)
Rain: Lasswell...
Lasswell: We have fought this long together. Believe in your friends... Believe in me. We can help you.
Rain: I know. We've been together... how long now? If I fall, I know you'll come save me. I'll be counting on you. I trust in you.
Lasswell: Yes. Trust in us.
(The scene fades out.)
(The scene opens in battle, the party fighting fodder.)
Sakura: (The confusing darkness, made from the ill will of people... This cannot be defeated easily...)(...I have lived for too long a life. That being said, what I must do...)
Rain: What's wrong, Sakura? You seem to be deep in thought.
Sakura: No matter what happens, you keep moving forward. Promise me.
Rain: Huh? Alright, understood.
(Wave 1 of battle commences. There is no further dialogue.)
(The party is walking north in darkness. They come to a stop before the giant skeleton in the sky.)
Rain: So this is the Chaotic Darkness...
Jake: I already knew what we were up against, but... seeing it up close like this is still overwhelming.
Nichol: Can we really defeat such a monster?
(Sakura walks forward.)
Sakura: You can! You of all people can do it.
(She turns to face the party.)
Sakura: Listen to me. If you hope to win against the dark, you must not lose the light of hope. No matter what. We will give you the strength you need to do that.
Raegen: Sakura...
Sakura: Raegen. Your job is to close the gate. Leave this part to me.
Raegen: I understand.
Sakura: Then here I go!
(Sakura holds up a hand and begins to glow.)
Rain: Sakura? What are you doing?
Sakura: Haaaaaaa!
(The rest of the party glows pink for a moment.)
Rain: Wh-what is this? I feel power filling me.
Jake: This is awesome! That's Sakura for you!
Sakura: Don't think I'm done yet! This isn't enough yet!
(She casts the spell again.)
Lid: Amazing! The power just keeps getting stronger!
Nichol: This may indeed be enough to allow us to fight against the Chaotic Darkness...
(Fina gets a ! over her head, and the driving battle music comes to an abrupt stop.)
Fina: Wait! Sakura, can you handle giving us this much power?
Rain: Sakura? You can't be...? You're not giving us your own life power, are you!?
(Sakura is still glowing. She turns her back to the party and walks a few steps north.)
Sakura: ...
Rain: Sakura, say something! Answer me!
Sakura: So what if I am? My life is a cheap price to pay for being able to defeat the Chaotic Darkness.
Lid: What're you talking about!? Sakura, stop!
Jake: She's right! Sakura, don't do something stupid!
(Lid and Jake walk towards Sakura, but are thrown back by a force field that suddenly appears.)
Sakura: All I'm doing is finally finding a proper use for this long life I have been granted. Now I finally understand. I've lived all this time for this moment... for the chance to share it with you... My life. I will give it to you all.
Fina: Sakura...
(Sakura has turned back again to face the party.)
Sakura: It was great fun traveling with you all. These months were the best of my 700-year-long life. So I thank you. From the bottom of my heart.
(She steps closer to the party, into her force field.)
Sakura: Now take it! This is the final gift I can give to you all!
(Sakura beings to cast the spell, but stops when Rain speaks.)
Rain: No. No, Sakura...
(Rain steps closer to the force field. He begins to glow, yellow streams of light emitting from him. He steps into the force field and it disappears. He's still aglow.)
Sakura: What!?
(Rain glows brightly, and then the light goes out. He steps closer to Sakura, who backs up a step.)
Rain: Sakura. You've given us more than enough already. We can do the rest with our own power.
Sakura: B-but... if you then fail to defeat the Chaotic Darkness....
Rain: If we don't all get to go back home alive together, then we might as well have lost anyway. You know as well as anyone the pain of being left behind, don't you?
(The pink glow that was between Sakura and Rain now stops.)
Lid: Oh, thank goodness... He's convinced her...
(The party gathers closer to Sakura. She looks around at them.)
Sakura: Wh-what is this? I feel an even greater power from you all than the power I gave... B-but why...
Rain: It's like I told you. We've all got to go back home together. That feeling makes us strong than anything else.
Sakura: ...Heh. If you can avoid it, don't ever get old. You get so self-important that you think no one else can ever do anything to help you. But... you all have opened my eyes. Rain. Let us win this battle and return home together.
Rain: Yes. We're going to need your help. Until the end, Sakura.
Sakura: I will be glad to help. You are my dearest friends, after all!
(They face the Chaotic Darkness, move closer to it, and draw their weapons. Battle begins!)
(The scene opens on two soldiers on patrol in Zoldaad. One reacts with a ! over his head to something we can't see.)
Zoldaad Soldier: Look! The darkness is retreating! Have we been saved!?
(The camera pans up to another group of soldiers. With them is Ilias and Fohlen.)
Fohlen: It looks like.. they managed to do it.
Ilias: Rain... Everyone... You truly are amazing!
(The camera pans up some more to Emperor Shera and Amelia.)
Emperor Shera: Thank you... Brother...
(Amelia reacts with a ! to something off screen.)
Amelia: Hah! Emperor Shera! Look! There, in the sky!
(The scene shifts to the party, standing still in darkness.)
Rain: D-did we do it?
Nichol: No! Wait! Something is not right!
(The scene shakes and the sky twists. Where the skeleton once was is now a monstrous, Behemoth-like beast. It roars, and shock waves emit from it.)
Lid: N-no way... It regenerated....
Rain: Don't lose heart, everyone!
Lasswell: That's right! If it has regenerated, then that simply means we will defeat it again!
Fina: Yeah! We can't give up! We won't give up!
(Rain, Lid, and Lasswell rush the beast, but their attacks are ineffective.)
Rain: What is this!? We can't even damage it!?
Raegen: It seems to have used the darkness around itself to create a barrier. That's how it's absorbing all of your attacks.
Lid: What!? Then... what are we supposed to do!?
(There is a sound, almost like something being sucked in.)
Nichol: The darkness is--!?
Jake: Nichol! Watch out!
(Jake rushes to Nichol, pushing him back. Both fall to their knees, Jake surrounded by darkness.)
Lid: Jake!
(Fina backs up as darkness takes Sakura.)
Sakura: What!? H-how could I be so careless!?
(Nichol stands and turns to Sakura.)
Nichol: Sakura! I will get Sakura free! Lid, you help Jake!
Lid: Okay!
(Lid and Nichol run to the two others.)
Jake: No, Lid! Stay away from here!
(Lid grasps Jake's hand.)
Lid: When have I ever listened to you!? You dolt!
Jake: I'll be fine! Just let me go! You'll get dragged in, too, Lid!
Lid: I won't!
Jake: Lid, please! Let go!
Lid: I'm not letting go! I won't ever let go! You're the one who said it, Jake! You said you would be beside me until the end!
Jake: Lid...
Lid: That's why... I'm going to...
(Darkness overtakes Lid & Jake.)
Rain: Lid! Jake!
(Nichol is still struggling to pull Sakura free.)
Nichol: Sakura! Hold onto my hand!
(They too are enveloped in darkness.)
Rain: Even Nichol and Sakura...
(The camera pans to Fina. She reacts with a ! and falls to her knees.)
Fina: Rain!
(Rain rushes to her as darkness swirls about her.)
Rain: Fina!
Raegen: Damn it!
(Raegen is in the background, near Lasswell. Lasswell is on his knees, flushed with exertion.)
Lasswell: Rain... You're going to have to.... take it from here...
(Fina has disappeared into darkness, which now swirls around Lasswell and Raegen.)
Rain: Lasswell! Dad!
(And just like that, Lasswell and Raegen are gone too. Rain walks a few steps, then falls to his knees.)
Rain: ..No! Nooooooooo!!!
(He stands. The camera pans back up to the Chaotic Darkness, and there is a sound as if Rain has jumped and attacked it. The scene fades out.)
(The scene fades in to Rain, laying prone on the ground.)
Rain: ...
???: Hate... hate... hate... hate... Die... die... die... die... Destroy... destroy... destroy... destroy...
(Rain gets up on his knees, propping himself up with his sword.)
Rain: This voice... Right... So this is its voice... The Chaotic Darkness...
Chaotic Darkness: Hate... hate... hate... hate... Die... die... die... die... Destroy... destroy... destroy... destroy...
Rain: This is the ill will found within humanity... This is what Sol calls the truth of life... ...But I still...
(Rain stands, but he's looking downcast.)
Chaotic Darkness: Hate... hate... hate... hate... Die... die... die... die... Destroy... destroy... destroy... destroy...
Rain: I still want to protect humanity... I still want to protect the living...
(Rain turns to face north.)
Rain: I set out from Grandshelt together with Lasswell and met so many people.
(He begins to walk forward.)
Rain: Fina. Lid. Nichol. Jake. Sakura... I found irreplaceable friends and together we walked down the path fate had laid for us... We fought to death against the Veritas and, even if we had different ideals, we managed to understand one another.... Everything that happened on this journey... It's all become a part of who I am now, my blood and bones...
(He turns now, facing the camera.)
Rain: That's why I know... I can't stop this thing with hatred.
(He runs forward.)
Rain: I believe in the people... I believe in life!
(There is a sound, and he turns west.)
Rain: What is... that...?
(He walks west. There is a bright yellow light in the sky. It streams beans of light that obliterate the scene. When the next scene appears, the Main Theme of Final Fantasy plays and continues to play through the following scenes.)
(We see the first village Rain and Lasswell encountered on their journey.)
Gheist: I know it. Those fellows fighting up there in the sky are the same knights that beat the ochu for us. Maybe we can't do anything but pray, but maybe our prayers at least will reach them!
(The villagers glow yellow, and the scene shifts. We see young Emma, standing with her new guardian amongst people in the mountains.)
Emma: I... I'm living my life to the fullest, for me and my mom, too. You all have to live, too. Go get those bad guys!
(Emma glows yellow, followed by the people with her.)
(Next we see the dwarves in the forge. They too glow yellow.)
(The scene shifts again. Luka emerges from the lake.)
Luka: Brother... I've put my trust in you.
(She prays and glows yellow. The scene shifts to Olderion.)
Arsha: Please, Nichol. For the sake of this child to come... Save our world. Elle... You'll pray, too, won't you?
(Arsha glows yellow, followed by the villagers. Mercedes then enters the scene from the north, and turns back as a lackey calls to her.)
Lackey: C-captain! Wait up! The enemy's the sky, boss! Pirates like us can't do anything against a foe like that!
Mercedes: I know that! Rain and the rest are putting their lives on the line to fight for us! Believe in them!
(Mercedes glows. The scene shifts to the orphanage in Zoldaad, where everyone glows.)
(Next is the throne room in Zoldaad.)
Ilias: We are truly powerless, aren't we... Unable to do a thing but stand and watch.
Fohlen: If it had not been for our help, Rain and his friends would have never made it out of Gronoa. Be proud, Ilias. You have no reason to feel ashamed.
Amelia: You did your task. Now all we can do is pray. Pray for their victory in battle.
Emperor Shera: All our people are praying for you and your friends to return safely, my brother. Please return to us alive.
(They glow. The scene switches to Camille, in underground Gronoa.)
Camille: Just when I thought everything was over, now the world itself is ending... This is just too much to take in. But I'm not dying! So you all had better not die either!
(She glows, followed by the villagers.)
(The scene shifts to the berserker Ulrica and her mage companion Heltich. They glow.)
(Next is the adventurer Helena, who paces back and forth a bit, then stops, glowing.)
(The scene shifts to the weaponsmith Aileen, who begins to glow.)
(Next up is Ayaka's village.)
Gohken: No matter what land you might live in... Every person in this world is wishing for the same thing now, Rain. Everyone. It is all up to you now.
Ayaka: Mistress Sakura. If you make it back, I will treat you to a whole heap of candy. So you'd better come back.
(They glow.)
(The scene shifts to Grandshelt. The people gather before the castle. The camera pans up to the King and Charlotte on a castle balcony.)
Charlotte: Laswell. Rain. I promised that I would protect our kingdom. So, you needn't worry about a thing. Fight to the fullest.
King of Grandshelt: Raegen. Rain. Lasswell. My knights of Grandshelt. You are my pride. I leave the fate of our world up to you all, with my prayers.
(They glow, followed by a large glow from the citizens.)
(The scene returns to Rain, who's glowing himself. The yellow glow becomes tangible before him, turning into Lasswell, who stands and faces Rain. Lasswell is also glowing.)
Rain: Lasswell!
(Fina appears next, followed by the rest of the party, all glowing.)
Rain: Fina! Everyone!
Lasswell: What is this light?
Fina: It's so warm...
Rain: I can feel it... This light is filled with everyone's feelings.
Fina: Yeah. I can feel it, too.
(The party all stand and face north.)
Rain: The Chaotic Darkness..... That's what's inside human hearts. People are weak. Mabe that's why that kind of darkness takes root in them. But... if they can overcome that darkness, then they can create a strong, beautiful light... Just like this!
(The glow gets stronger on everyone momentarily, then disappears.)
Rain: I'll protect such people! I will keep them safe!
(A sound, of a propeller.)
Lid: Wait.. Can you... hear that?
(The party all look around.)
Lid: That roar... Is it...?
(An airship streams across the sky!)
Lid: The Invincible!?
Lasswell: But who is at the helm?
(Lid takes a step forward.)
Lid: No way...
(The camera pans up to the deck of the Invincible, where Evan is standing alone at the railing.)
Evan: Come on, you all! Get on board!
(The party boards the airship. Once they're on the deck...)
Lid: Evan!
Evan: Lid! Now we can get you right up close to that monster! You guys are the only ones who can defeat that thing!
Lid: Yeah! You can count on us!
Evan: All right! Full speed ahead!
(The scene fades out.)
(Balls of light streak forward and hit the Chaotic Darkness. The scene then shifts to the party, standing at the prow on the Invincible.)
Nichol: The Chaotic Darkness... The light is striking its body.
Rain: Yeah. Everyone's prayers have reached it.
(There is a sound. Blackened, purple light creeps into the scene from the north, then disappears. Lid reacts with a ! over her head.)
Lid: Look! The barrier that was protecting it has been broken!
Lasswell: Let's do it, Rain! We should be able to defeat it now!
Rain: That's right! We can't let everyone down now!
Nichol: Sakura, are you going to be all right?
Sakura: Yes. I've still got some strength in me. You know, though... when we first met, I didn't ever think the day would come when you all would have to worry about me.
(She gets a (...) over her head.)
Sakura: But... I suppose it is a good thing. Having others care enough to worry about you.
Nichol: Then please allow us to continue worrying about you in the future. But first we must win this battle.
Lid: Jake? I've got just one favor to ask you.
Jake: And what is that, my lovely Lid?
Lid: When this battle is over with, I want you to come to Dilmagia and ride on the airship I build. And when we're up in the sky together, we'll share a toast.... And then after that...
Jake: Hold on there, darling. That's beginning to sound like more than just one favor. But... all right.
(He gives a thumbs-up.)
Jake: Once this battle is over with, I'll be happy to fulfill your every dream.
Lid: My... every dream... *gulp*
(The driving music stops as Fina turns from the prow.)
Fina: ...The other Fina... if you can still hear me somehow... Please give me strength. I can't lose this battle. Not this one.
(The scene darkens so only Fina is visible.)
Dark Fina: Don't worry. You won't. You've really become strong. You aren't that same naive kid who came out of that crystal. Don't ever give up. Believe in yourself until the end. That'll be my gift to you. Protect them all... Protect Rain.
(The scene whitens.)
Dark Fina: Be strong. My other self...
(The scene now returns to the party in full.)
Fina: I will. I promise. Thank you. I won't let you down.
(Fina draws her bow. The Chaotic Darkness descends into the scene, and everyone prepares for battle.)
Rain: Let's go, everybody! This is finally it! The last battle!
(Battle begins!)
Rain: We did it! We beat the Chaotic Darkness!
Lid: Evan! Turn the Invincible to the gate now!
Rain: Now we just have to close that gate!
(The ship shakes, and the scene shows the gate briefly, then returns to the deck of the airship.)
Rain: You're up, Dad! Tell us how we close the gate!
(Raegen walks forward a few steps.)
Raegen: No problem... You can leave it up to me.
Lasswell: Hold on... Sir Raegen... I trust you aren't about to insist that you will close it in exchange for your life or anything.
Fina: Wha...?
Raegen: Well, would there be any point in trying to deny it now? After all this? I'm not going to lie. It's risky. I might die. But even so I've still got to do it.
(A golden light emits from him, blinding out the scene for a second. When the scene returns he's outlined in a white light and appears to be floating off the ground.)
Rain: That's the blood of Aldore's power when it's awoken...
Raegen: This is a complete awakening. I'm not holding anything back now. This is something you can't do yet, Rain.
Sakura: In that state, you should be able to negate the magic pouring out of the gate. If it loses the magic stores sustaining it now, even temporarily, the gate will collapse back in on itself.
Raegen: Simple as that. Don't worry. I'm not planning on dying today. This'll work. Once this battle is done with, I intend to go back home with my two sons and live a long life together.
Rain: Sure, that's what you say now. But once everything's peaceful, you know you'll be right out the door and embarking on some adventure again.
Raegen: Ha ha ha! You may be right about that.
(He floats closer to Rain.)
Raegen: Then you'll just have to come with me. This time we'll go on an adventure together.
Rain: ...I guess I could settle for that.
Raegen: So for now, just trust me.
(He flies backward to the railing.)
Lid: Wha... So the power of Aldore even lets you guys fly!?
Raegen: I'm off, everybody. But just for a little while.
(Lasswell rushes to him.)
Lasswell: W...wait!
Raegen: What is it? Lasswell.
Lasswell: Be... be careful. Dad.
Raegen: ...Yeah. I will. Thank you, Lasswell.
(Raegen flies upward. We see the gate, then Raegen in mid-air, streaks of magic flowing past him from the gate. He holds out a hand and sends forth a beam of golden light.)
Raegen: All right. With this...
(More streaks of magic, and he sends another beam.)
Raegen: Ngh...!
(The streaks continue, and he sends forth two more beams.)
Reagen: There doesn't seem to be an end to it. If this goes on too long... My power won't hold out...
(He sends forth another beam.)
Raegen: But... that doesn't change a thing. Even if this is where I breathe my last... Sophia... Rain... Lasswell...
(He readies to send forth another beam.)
Raegen: Please give me strength...
(He shoots two beams. The scene shifts to the deck of the Invincible, where the party watches.)
Rain: What's happening? His attacks are getting weaker.
Sakura: This is not good. It may be that Raegen used up too much of his power in the battles leading up to this one.
Lid: Wait... Do you mean it's not going to work?
Sakura: ...I do not know. Which will run out of power first? Raegen or the gate? At this rate... I fear that..
Rain: ...
(Rain backs up from the railing. A golden glow envelopes him. It's not as strong as the glow that awakened Raegen, though.)
Lasswell: Rain!
Rain: I'm going to help him.
Lid: B-but... Didn't Sir Raegen say that he had to completely awaken his power to fight against that thing?
(Rain nods.)
Rain: I can do it. Just watch.
Sakura: Rain. I understand how difficult it is to stand on the sidelines and do nothing, but this...
Rain: It's not just that. If I stand by and do nothing now, the world might end. I have to do this.
Fina: Rain...
Rain: Fina, I promise. It's going to be okay. Believe in me.
(Lasswell bows his head.)
Lasswell: ...
Rain: Come on, Lasswell. What's with that face? You know me better than anyone. You know what I can do.
Lasswell: I do...
Rain: So leave this up to me.
(Lasswell looks up at Rain again.)
Lasswell: I will. But, Rain. Not before I say one last thing. Remember what it means to protect others. You must also protect them from sorrow.
Rain: Yeah. I'm not going to make anybody cry. I promise I'm coming back. You have my word.
(A brief pause, then...)
Rain: Aaauuuuuugh!
(Rain completes his awakening, and flies off into the sky. The scene shifts to Raegen, where beams of magic still stream down around him.)
Raegen: Hah... Hah... Damn... Everything is... going black... Is this... the end...?
(Rain flies into view.)
Rain: You're looking a bit ragged, old man.
Raegen: Rain!? You fool... Why would you...?
Rain: If you want to scold me, do it later. I think we'd better focus on closing that gate for now.
Raegen: Do you even realize the risk that you--
Rain: Like father, like son. If you're gonna put your life on the line, then I might as well do the same. Now, stop wasting time, Dad. Let's close this gate together.
Raegen: Yeah. Let's do that.
(They hold out their hands and send forth a powerful beam of light together.)
Rain: All right! It's working! If we can keep this up...
Raegen: Rain.... You... In the final hour you actually managed to pull off a complete awakening... I guess.... there really is no fighting what's in your blood.
(They send forth another beam together.)
Rain: The gate's starting to close! We did it! It worked!
Raegen: Yeah... Rain. We won. We really did it.
Sol: No. The gate will not close.
(They both react with a ! over their heads, and the camera pans to Sol.)
Rain: Sol!?
Sol: I told you. Did I not, Rain? You and I cannot exist in harmony. I will destroy you, without fail.
(Sol glows.)
Sol: Behold! I will give everything I have, everything that I am, to keep open the gate! Open! Open ever wider! Bring ruin to this world, as it should be!
Raegen: I-impossible.... That madman... He's actually giving his own life to keep the gate open!? Damn it! If he succeeds, the gate will open even further than before!
Rain: Ngh! Like I'm gonna let that happen!
(Rain flies off. He and Sol clash, in brilliant light. There's a series of grunts from them, too fast to capture, and the scene obliterates. The camera then pans back to Raegen.)
Raegen: ...Rain.
(The camera shifts to the deck of the airship.)
Lid: No... way... But...
(Raegen lands on the deck, and stops glowing.)
Sakura: Raegen. What of Rain...?
Raegen: ...Rain is gone.
Fina: Th-that can't... be...
(Fina walks a step, then collapses.)
Fina: Rain... Why... Why would you leave us?
(Sakura goes to Fina's side.)
Nichol: Raaaaaaiiin! Rain! RAIN!
(Nichol too collapses to his knees.)
Nichol: Say something! Answer me, damn it! You're still out there somewhere, aren't you!? You wouldn't let yourself die just like that!
(Nichol jumps to his feet and looks around.)
Nichol: You wouldn't! So answer me! Please... answer me...
(Jake crouches and punches the deck with his fist.)
Jake: That... That idiot...
Lid: No! This isn't how it was supposed to be! Rian's not supposed to die!
(Lid has covered her face with her hands.)
Lid: R-Rain... *sob* You can't do this to us...
Lasswell: ...
(Lasswell turns and walks off screen. Fina stands.)
Fina: Lasswell?
(Fina walks after Lasswell, who's standing near the back of the ship.)
Lasswell: I'm certain of it. Rain isn't dead. He is undoubtedly still alive.
Fina: What?
Lasswell: After all, Rain promised me that he would return.
Fina: ...
Lasswell: It will be all right. No matter how bad of a mess he gets himself into, Rain comes back with an easy smile on his face. That is the Rain I know. Isn't that the Rain that you know as well?
(Fina take a step towards Lasswell.)
Fina: Yeah... Yeah, it is.
Lasswell: But... if he is hurt so badly that he cannot come back to us on his own... Then I will go to him. Wherever he is. I swear.
(The camera pans up, and the scene ends.)
A few months later...
(A CGI movie starts: Raegen and Lasswell on an airship. Fina approaches, waving at them. The father and son look at each other.)
(The movie ends and now the two are walking on broken ground.)
Raegen: Lasswell. We might as well start the search here.
Lasswell: Yes, sir.
(Lasswell has his hair pulled up in a ponytail, and his katana and Rain's sword are crossed on his back. The two begin to search the nearby area. Raegen spots something and gets a (...) over his head. Lasswell approaches him, then they both react with a ! over their heads at something off screen. The scene shifts, showing the two ready for battle against four dark-armored centaur-like enemies.)
Lasswell: Who are these interlopers?
Raegen: I've never seen their like before... But we won't let anything stop us here.
Lasswell: No. We will find Rain at once.
Raegen: That's right. Let's cut straight through these fools. Let's go, Lasswell!
Lasswell: Yes, Father!
(They strike through the enemies. A dialogue appears:)
