Coming soon!
On April 25th, 2009, I stepped into the world of Vana'diel for the first time. I did not quite take to it then--oh, I had fun running around and doing quests, but I was too shy to join parties. After a while, I had progressed as far as I could solo, and quit playing.
Then I went to a Distant Worlds concert, and boy did that renew my interest in playing ALL the Final Fantasy games. So I went back to FFXI, this time being more determined to be brave and party. And wow, did I fall for the game HARD.
Final Fantasy XI is a mix of memories for me. I had plenty of fun and met some interesting people in it. But there was also a lot of stress, as I tried to keep up with the progression of my peers. I remember rushing through the Rise of the Zilart in a weekend just so we could get to "Sky", the popular "endgame" of the time. Unfortunately, that meant that the story didn't really have a chance to sink in.
I was forced to quit FFXI due to lack of money sometime in 2012. Twelve years passed, and I eventually moved on to Final Fantasy XIV and forgot about FFXI. But then FFXIV did the Echoes of Vana'diel raid and all the memories came rushing back, and well, nostalgia goggles are STRONG.
So I returned to Vana'diel (for real!) in late 2024. This time, my goal is just to play the story--and document it, so I no longer have hazy memories. Unlike FFXIV, which is VERY story-heavy and takes influence from other games in the franchise (but does so in a way that is brilliant), FFXI is its own, self-contained thing. Sure, there are Final Fantasy tropes such as chocobos and Summoners, and the classic jobs of WAR MNK BLM WHM THF RDM. But its story is wholly its own, and is worth getting to know.
I'll be adding to this site little by little as I play. Please look forward to it.
