I’m still in shock.
It was June 8th, and I was working on the FFBE section of this site, typing up Lasswell’s short story. And then something happened that I really didn’t expect:
oh my gods. I’m working on typing up some FFBE short stories, but I wanted to double check a section title because sometimes I can’t read my own writing, so I web search on “youtube FFBE lasswell short story” and the third hit is MY OWN NEOCITIES SITE. I guess this explains how I’ve gotten nearly 28,000 views already. I’m, like, dead of squee and a bit of embarrassment. D-E-A-D.
The morning of the 9th, I copied this message and reposted it in the Caves of Narshe discord server. And then I set about doing my day job.
Meanwhile, the CoN crew were watching the Nintendo Direct. I was too busy to watch myself, but I peeked in the server from time to time to see if I had missed anything exciting. It was while I was wrangling spreadsheets for work that I got a notification from R51, CoN’s webmaster:
I think maybe we just saw why there was an uptick on PVs for AltheaValara and “Lasswell?” 👀
I immediately clicked over to Discord, saw the line above this message saying “Final Fantasy Resonance”, and typed, “WAIT, WHAT?”
And then I turned on the Direct.
And then I messaged two other servers with the news.
To say I am excited would be an understandment. I was a heavy player of Final Fantasy Brave Exvius for about five years. Strictly free-to-play (I wasn’t working at the time, so couldn’t spend money on Lapis), but I got lucky in my pulls and was able to clear some of the harder content, though it might have taken me a few tries. I’ve long said that FFBE’s story is on par with the mainline Final Fantasy games. The whole reason I started this site was so others could experience that wonderful story.
And now they’ll be able to play it themselves. It’s only going to be season 1, and the gameplay looks different from what I’m familiar with, but that incredible story and lovable characters will still be there. Folks, I’m so excited at this. I mean yeah, I’m thrilled to be able to replay it again myself, but I’m even MORE thrilled that I’ll be able to stream it on my Twitch channel and share this wonderful game with my viewers.
What does this mean for this site? I still intend to work on my documentation project. As said above, the game is only going to be season 1. Chances are, if it does well, that they’ll release subsequent seasons as additional games. But there were also a LOT of story events in FFBE, and I’m not sure they’ll make it into Resonance.
To my right on a shelf are two 1-inch binders, one 2-inch binder, and one 3-inch binder stuffed full of pages of handwritten fanscripts of the short stories and story events. I don’t have ALL of them documented by hand, but I do have a good many, and the others can be found on YouTube. I’ll work on typing them up, and hopefully I can get the majority done soon.
